About PROMPTE Project
Protecting Mothers through Preeclampsia Education (PROMPTE) is a youth-led project that mobilizes African youths to promote awareness of preeclampsia using infographics translated to up to 50 African languages.
Preeclampsia the second leading cause of maternal mortality. Currently, the awareness and knowledge of preeclampsia is critically low among pregnant women and communities across Africa ranging from 10% to 33%. Infographics and local translation of health contents have shown to be effective strategies for effective health communication. We aim to increase awareness of preeclampsia among pregnant women and communities in African countries by leveraging infographics that are adapted to local languages.
The PROMPTE Project delivers prompt and proactive preeclampsia education following three stages: develop, design and disseminate. The contents were developed using evidence-based information from authorised bodies and reviewed by experts. The infographics were co-designed with the target audience and the materials are disseminated online and offline through Youth Champions in African communities since the World Preeclampsia Day on May 22, 2024.
