Advancing maternal health in Nigeria through leveraging mobile health clinics, community health initiatives, and digital tools

Our Inspiration

MyBelle is a Nigeria-based NGO seeking to reduce preventable pregnancy-related deaths by improving access to reproductive healthcare.

MyBelle was inspired by a tragic incident that happened to one of our co-founders, Dr. Charles Umeh, who lost his friend who lived in a rural Nigerian community while she was 8 months pregnant due to severe preeclampsia, a preventable and treatable condition that causes over 15% of maternal deaths worldwide.

We established MyBelle to address gaps in maternal healthcare access. By working side-by-side with pregnant people and communities across Nigeria, we aim to address systemic inequities and barriers to critical reproductive healthcare.

What we do

We employ three core strategies to improve access to reproductive healthcare:

1. Deploying mobile health clinics to provide direct medical care in rurally distant areas
2. Hosting in-person informational seminars
3. Developing a maternal health focused mobile app to disseminate information and resources

Our Vision

We aim to prevent maternal morbidity and mortality through circumventing distance-induced barriers to accessing healthcare

We distribute medical assets and conduct diagnostic screenings through commuting with mobile health clinics (ground vehicles and boats) in partnership with Vitamin Angels

MyBelle App

Our mobile application has five main features designed based on primary prospective user data to support a health pregnancy experience and decrease preventable causes of maternal morbidity and mortality in Nigeria

Our measured impact

We have accessed and treated over 9,000 women and children using mobile health clinics
We have delivered prenatal supplements to over 8,000 pregnant women
We have reached over 400 pregnant women in our informational seminars
We have over 300 active users on our digital health informational application
